Our Vision

The new home of LeMay - America's Car Museum will be an inspirational icon and an economic engine for the City of Tacoma.

A gleaming beacon above this growing city, it will be a technologically advanced, interactive automotive museum and educational center that will showcase the cultural impact of cars, motorcycles and trucks on our uniquely American way of life. Based on the LeMay Collection, currently consisting of over 2,000 cars, the new Museum will ultimately house 1,000 diverse vehicles, spanning a century of automotive history and the future of our transportation system. Upon completion, this $100 million project will be the largest auto museum and attraction in the world, and will bring an estimated 500,000 visitors and some $34,000,000 to the local economy annually.

Located just thirty miles south of Seattle, in the heart of the technology-rich Pacific Northwest, the Museum campus sits on nine prime acres, adjacent to the Tacoma Dome stadium. It will be highly visible to over 7 million motorists a year passing by on Interstate 5. Groundbreaking is being planned this year and the Grand Opening is scheduled for 2010. America’s Car Museum is built on the premise that there is an important and unique story to tell, involving the past, the present and the future. As a result, we are creating a place that attracts young and old alike, inspires and delights everyone who enters, and help will educate and help shape the drivers of the future.

America’s Car Museum will be:

  • A Gathering Place – where enthusiasts from around the world will come to celebrate America’s love affair with the automobile
  • A Creator of Social Network – for automotive enthusiasts, serious collectors and educational entities through promotion of, and active involvement in, automobile-related activities around the world and online
  • A Showcase for the Transportation Industry – to portray present achievements and future directions in design, technology and products
  • An Education Center – to promote automotive history, restoration and preservation
