TACOMA, Wash. (June 12, 2013) – LeMay – America’s Car Museum (ACM) has been awarded a $500,000 grant from the M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust to help design and develop exhibits and outfit educational facilities.
The grant will help ACM, North America’s largest automotive museum, enhance educational offerings such as their interactive Family Zone exhibit, Educational Resource Center and classroom.
“A founding principle at ACM is to promote automotive history, restoration and preservation by offering curricula to learners of all ages,” said ACM president and CEO, David Madeira. “We have a strong synergy with the Murdock Charitable Trust, which exists to inspire young people to learn, so with their assistance, we can continue to spark an interest for learning in the minds of students across the Pacific Northwest.”
ACM also recently hired an educational manager, Debbie Kray, who is responsible for developing the museum’s educational programs, including school outreach, tours and public programs.
The M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust was created by the will of the late Melvin J. (Jack) Murdock, co-founder of Vancouver, Wash.-based Tektronix, Inc. Since being established in 1975, the trust has provided most of its grants throughout the Pacific Northwest, seeking to strengthen the region’s educational, spiritual and cultural base in creative and sustainable ways.
