TACOMA, Wash. (September 20, 2013) – LeMay – America’s Car Museum (ACM) has partnered with Puget Sound MINI to award one lucky raffle winner with a new 2013 MINI Cooper S valued at $28,250.
Cami Apfelbeck of Poulsbo, Wash. received the keys to her attractive chili red and carbon black high performance 2013 Automatic Mini Cooper S with a fuel efficient 1.6L I4 DOHC 16V engine during a 10 am ceremony on Friday, September 20 at ACM. Proceeds from the second annual raffle, totaling just under $40,000, will benefit the museum.
ACM staff showcased the MINI at dozens of local events throughout the nine-month raffle period, which ended when the winner was announced on Sept. 8, 2013 at the 2013 US Bank Kirkland Concours d’Elegance at ACM. Thanks to the generosity of Puget Sound MINI, Apfelbeck is the second individual to win a car in an ACM raffle.
“It’s tradition for MINI owners to name their cars. I think Cami may want to consider naming hers LUCKY!” joked Manfred Scharmach, CEO and President of Puget Sound MINI after drawing Cami’s name from over 1,950 tickets.
“We are grateful that benevolent sponsors like Puget Sound MINI continue to make it possible for us to support the needs of the museum through fundraising,” said Dominic Dobson, chief development officer at ACM. “The vehicle raffles have been extremely popular with the public, and we hope to be able to continue them annually.”
Currently featured in the museum’s British Invasion exhibit, the MINI Cooper has been an iconic British car for centuries. Last sold in the US in 1967, the MINI Cooper made its return to the American market in 2002 with two models: the Cooper standard and the supercharged Cooper S.
Apfelbeck had the chance to experience the power of MINI firsthand when she motored away from ACM’s Anderson Plaza to Northwest MINI in Fife following the ceremony on Friday morning.
“I brought my husband to the museum for Father’s Day this year. We almost left without entering the raffle but decided to turn around,” said Apfelbeck. “We never win anything but figured it was for a good cause. It was definitely our lucky ticket!”
