1931 Ford Model A A400

Adopt-an-Auto Vehicle!

When Henry Ford finally relented to his son Edsel and replaced the Model T, he designed the new chassis and engine himself. The sophisticated styling was derived from the Lincoln and was overseen by Edsel. The 200 cid inline four produced 40 horsepower and was nearly twice as powerful as the model T. Four mechanical brakes replaced two and shock absorbers replaced leaf springs. The Convertible Sedan was the most expensive model available at $640 and 5070 were produced in 1931, making it also the rarest body style.

The A400, as the body style was cataloged, targeted the middle to high income customers. It is believed that the name was derived from the social register “The Four Hundred”, which stood as a symbol of wealth and power. The A400 came with leather upholstery, walnut wood graining, and carpet standard. The Convertible Sedan continued into 1932 as a four-cylinder Model B or a V8 Model 18.
